Ventel was founded with one mission in mind: to bridge the gap between cutting-edge academic research and real-world cybersecurity solutions. Formerly known as CyberRx LLC, our company was established by Dr. C. Jordan Howell, a professor and director of a major university cybersecurity lab, alongside Kaylee Eckelman, a finance and AI expert, and Frank Brown, a highly skilled programmer and former hacker turned defender.
The founding team first connected in an academic setting, where Kaylee and Frank joined Dr. Howell’s research lab. What began as a mentorship and collaboration quickly evolved into a shared vision: that the insights uncovered through academic research should not remain confined to universities or scholarly journals. They should solve real problems—proactively, precisely, and at scale.
While Dr. Howell continues to conduct research and contribute to the scientific community through his academic role, Ventel is a completely independent, privately held company, separate from any university affiliation. This clear separation is critical—not only to maintain ethical integrity—but also to adhere to legal standards.
Universities, as tax-funded institutions, are not permitted to compete directly in the private sector. They are built to educate and innovate, but not to commercialize or operationalize solutions at the scale required by today’s cybersecurity challenges.
We created Ventel to ensure that the groundbreaking research being developed inside university walls doesn’t go underutilized. By translating academic insights into deployable, practical tools, we close the gap between science and the sectors it was meant to serve.
